Dear WMOA Homeowner,

As you are all aware, this is the prime Bear Season on the mountain.  They are hungry and are foraging for food wherever they can find a meal.  A primary target is the garbage that is left outside of your home and not secured in Bear Proof containers or Sheds.  We have seen many driveways, lawns, and roads that are strewn with garbage, and in some instances on their neighbor’s property or dragged into the woods.  As you know, we no longer have WMC Home Services available to clean the mess and then bill the homeowner for the service.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to be conscious and responsible to keep your garbage either in your home, or in a Bear Proof container, or better still, bring it to the dump on Mitchell Hollow Road, Rte. 21, (518) 734-5842.  Also, this is the homeowner’s expense, not the WMOA or the WMC.

I have received the following email from the WMC as notice that this is occurring.

” Good afternoon just following up on the phone call earlier, Charlie. It seems like a lot of people aren’t taking care of their garbage properly. It is Bearing season. It really cannot be left out or even in a garbage shed for long periods and sometimes even overnight. The Bears are getting it, tearing it up and leaving it all over either their property, their Neighbors or the roadway.  It creates an unnecessary mess.

With home services now gone, we don’t have the people to clean it up and charge them and the WMOA shouldn’t be responsible for it either.

If you could write something up on the website that would be great.”

Please check your property and if necessary clean up the mess, we are trying to keep Windham Mountain as a showcase year-round.

Best regards,

Charles Presti – WMOA President
